AFL round one: Gold Coast v Richmond

While this wasn't the biggest upset of the round (that title belongs to the Giants), many would be surprised by Gold Coast's 18-point win over Richmond at Metricon Stadium.
It's only early days, but the AFL ladder leaders, after three games, are Fremantle, GWS, Gold Coast.
The Tigers kicked the first goal and then trailed pretty much all game as the Suns appeared better adapted to the humid conditions.
Gary Ablett collected 41 touches, the 90th time he has amassed more than 30, to put his name before the umpires as he vies for his third Brownlow.
Dion Prestia, David Swallow and Jaeger O'Meara were also prolific in the midfield.
Suns' fans will have to wait a while longer to see young gun Jack Martin at his best -- the teenager was sidelined with an AC joint injury early in the first term.
Early mail suggest it is a Grade 3 injury, which could mean he'll be out for months.
Key position player Charlie Dixon was also in the wars, failing to return after halftime due to concussion.
The Tigers must recover and regroup for their Round 2 clash with Carlton on March 27, a Thursday night blockbuster at the G - a chance to atone for last year's elimination final defeat.
The Suns face a massive challenge next round with the trip to Perth to play the Dockers on March 29.
Thanks for tuning in to Real Footy's live coverage of the Suns vs Tigers. See you next time.

Q4 GC 81 RICH 62 (24mins)

Ty Vickery kicks his second, a late one for the Tigers, to reduce the margin to 19 points. Time left? I don't think so.

Q4 GC 81 RICH 56 (17mins)

Tom Lynch boots his second goal for the term as the Suns open up a 25-point lead. Definitely game over.

Q4 GC 74 RICH 56 (13mins)

David Astbury commits a 'superman' act to rush a behind and spoil a certain Suns' mark (and likely goal). But the Tigers' kick-in is intercepted by David Swallow who kicks the goal. Game over?

Tigers kick the first two, Suns kick the next two. Another Suns' goal and it will get tough for the Tiges.

Q4 GC 67 RICH 56 (9mins)

Sammy Day has two bites of the cherry and then kicks the goal from 15m on the angle. Suns by 11 points.

- Ablett stars in third term and now has 30 disposals

- Suns' wasteful in front of goal. Could have put Tigers to sword that term but door still ajar

AFL behind

Q3 GC 55 RICH 43 (23mins)

Sumner boots a behind for the Suns as Richmond subs Foley in for Griffiths. A minute to play in the term.

Q3 GC 54 RICH 43 (18mins)

Dion Prestia kicks a behind but Gary Ablett capitalises on an error to (finally) kick a goal for the Suns. First one for them since the eight-minute mark of the second term. Yet remarkably, they never surrendered the lead.

AFL behind

Q3 GC 47 RICH 43 (15mins)

Dion Prestia kicks a behind. Five behinds for the Suns this term to 1.1 for the Tiges.

AFL behind

Q3 GC 46 RICH 43 (11mins)

David Swallow kicks another behind. He's kicked four now and may have a goal in behinds by the end of the game.

AFL behind

Q3 GC 45 RICH 43 (8mins)

Rischitelli kicks a behind for the Suns. Players looking very tired and we still have a way to go.
