Eagles destroy Kangaroos in elimination final

West Coast smashes North Melbourne by 96 points in Perth to set up a tantalising semi-final against Collingwood next Saturday.

It has been a big weekend of finals so far. Hawthorn booked a place in a preliminary final on Friday night with a win over Collingwood. Sydney enjoyed a win over Adelaide to do the same. And last night Fremantle upset Geelong in a huge game at the MCG.

FINAL SCORE: West Coast 24.18 (162) North Melbourne 9.12 (66)

THE WRAP: What a performance by West Coast. They dominated from start to finish and aside from a short period in the third quarter, the Roos barely gave a whimper. They were well and truly beaten all over the ground and the Eagles kicked the boots in while North was down in the last term. A number of Eagles lined up for possessions but Scott Selwood, Kerr and Priddis had the most of the ball. For North Swallow did his best, racking up 32 touches, but it wasn't enough and he had very little support although Ziebell also had 30 touches. The Roos' forward line did not fire at all, whereas the West Coast forwards all but did as they pleased. Pies fans watching this game may well be anxious, especially as Nick Maxwell is on report from Friday night's game. In the end the Eagles ran away with the game, winning by 96 points.

Q4 - 32.07: SIREN. Huge win by the Eagles. The crowd celebrates by singing the song. The Eagles are off to face the Pies after dominating North Melbourne by 96 points.

Q4 - 30.16: BEHIND. Kerr looks to continue the fun with a kick from 35 but no such luck. The mexican wave is going around the ground as the Eagles fans celebrate anyway.

Q4 - 28.58: GOAL! Party time for the Eagles - although it's probably been party time for a while now. But Kennedy pulls out a party trick, snapping across the body from the pocket after gathering the loose ball. His defender didn't have a chance of stopping him.

Q4 - 26.20: GOAL!! Lynch has leather poisoning at the moment. He has just unleashed from well outside 50 and sent the ball through on the full. Great goal!

Q4 - 25.12: GOAL! North scrambled to get the ball out of defence, couldn't, and the ball spilled to Lynch. Lynch passed it off to Kerr by hand who ran to 50 and kicked a nice goal. Just under four minutes to go.

Q4 - 23.34: BEHIND. Bold play by Schofield, who marked just outside 50 and played on although his opponent was literally breathing down his neck. He got a kick away but it was inaccurate.

Q4 - 21.57: GOAL! Lynch goes again and this time it is a goal. Kennedy fed him the handpass and Lynch swung the kick back around his body for a nice goal.

Q4 - 20.44: BEHIND. Eagles are peppering the goals. This time Lynch vies for long goal of the game but Naitanui gets in the way in the goal square. Would have been a brilliant mark but the ball goes through off hands.

Q4 - 19.02: BEHIND. Shuey unloads from about 50 metres but McMahon gets a boot to it and puts it through for a rushed behind.

Q4 - 17.51: GOAL! Eagles fans go nuts and Shannon Hurn unloads from 60 metres out. What a goal!

Q4 - 17.23: BEHIND. Poor miss by Masten. He got the tap down from the stoppage and right in front of goal pulled the kick.

Q4 - 15.16: GOAL! Gaff took off down the wing, taking a couple of bounces and plenty of time to deliver nicely to Naitanui. From 45 metres out he swings the ball back to score his first goal of the day.

Q4 - 13.27: BEHIND. Nic Nat takes a nice mark on the lead but he goes back and takes the shot and it is off target.

Q4 - 11.51: BEHIND. Campbell gets the ball in the pocket and tries to dribble the ball through for his fourth, but it hits the feet of a West Coast defender and is through for a rushed behind.

Q4 - 10.50: GOAL! Boomer again, this time Swallow feeds him a handball and on less of an angle, Harvey is able to send it through.

Q4 - 10.03: BEHIND. Boomer Harvey has a running shot on goal but it floats wide.

Q4 - 8.22: GOAL! Kennedy again! He is getting off the leash here. He has marked a Masten pass 40 metres out, gone back and slotted it.

BLOOD RULE: Adam Selwood comes off with a small cut over his eye.

INJURY UPDATE: Beau Waters' injury was thought to be an achilles but may actually be a break in his lower leg. He will have scans, but either way it doesn't look good.

Q4 - 6.14: GOAL! Slick play again from the Eagles. After Naitanui missed a hanger in the goal square, Schofield was able to scoop up the loose ball and square it up to Kennedy. Kennedy went back and pushed it through.

Q4 - 4.16: GOAL! Cox wins a free kick for being held in a marking contest. He kicks from about 45 metres out and it is a beauty.

Q4 -00.11:  BEHIND. Shuey looks to start off the last term in a special way for the Eagles but though he breaks away with it from thecentre, his kick is off-line.

3QT WRAP: North Melbourne looked much, much better in that quarter. But it looks to be too little, too late. Harper, the sub for the Roos, was a spark and Campbell was good up forward. Petrie saw a bit of the ball and so did Harvey but the Eagles were still able to respond. They look dangerous on the rebound. Eagles are still on top in disposals, inside 50s and marks, but North are evening out the other statistics. Eagles well on top, they lead by 43 points.

Q3 - 32.43: SIREN. Kerr was put down just on three-quarter time and a bit of a scuffle broke out. But the two teams seperate and move off to their respective huddles with the Eagles leading by 43 points.

Q3 - 30.53: BEHIND. Eagles rebounded quickly out of defence but Darling's kick was sent through by the Roos for a rushed behind.

Q3 - 26.32: GOAL! Campbell wins a free in the pocket as Glass held him back from a loose ball. The kick is a tough one but Campbell makes it look easy. Eagles by 42.

Q3 - 24.33: BEHIND. Shocking miss by Gibson for the Roos. He won a free kick in the middle and a 50 metre penalty saw him almost directly in front, about 30 metres out. But the kick was a shocker.

Q3 - 20.52: GOAL! Back-to-back goals for the Roos. Hansen passes to Petrie in the pocket who finishes nicely. A small bright patch for the Roos.

Q3 - 19.13: GOAL!! A nice goal for North Melbourne and Brent Harvey, who goaled from 52 metres out on the run.

Q3 - BEHIND. Roos rush the ball through as the Eagles press yet again.

SUBSTITUTION NORTH MELBOURNE: Robbie Tarrant has come off for the Roos, Harper gets a run.

Q3 - 15.18: GOAL! Masten is awarded a goal after a video review - a bit lucky there as even the Eagles players seemed to think the ball was touched.

Q3 - 13.03: GOAL! North get another. Eagles players claim the ball was touched out of the pack but Cunnington is awarded the goal.

Q3 - 11.32: BEHIND. Eagles press forward again, this time through Shuey, but his shot from outside 50 was offline.

Q3 - 10.33: GOAL! Embley again - he marked deep in the pocket, and with very few North player guarding the mark, he stepped out, played on, and goaled.

Q3 - 8.18: GOAL! That hurts the Roos. Embley grabbed a mark on the wing from a Dean Cox pass and took off, running inside 50 and finishing nicely as he was being chased down by two North Melbourne players. Crowd liked it! Eagles by 53.

Q3 - 7.22: BEHIND. Roos have a chance to go back to back but Swallow's running shot is off target.

Q3 - 6.22: GOAL! This is more like it for North Melbourne, Campbell becomes the Roos' first multiple goal-scorer with a nice set shot from 40 metres on the end of a nice pass from Swallow.

Q3 - 4.29: GOAL! Great team goal for the Eagles finished off nicely by Josh Kennedy. Cox tapped the ball over the top and Schofield ran onto the ball. He sent a pass in to Kennedy who finished off on the run.

Q3 - 2.26: GOAL! Roos open the third term with a goal against all the odds. Atley had a nice run from defence through the middle of the ground but some sloppy handballs inside 50 almost ruined things for the Roos. Hansen finally got the ball in the goal square and put it through though.

Q3 - Play underway in the third quarter.

HT WRAP: The Eagles continued to dominate in that term, although North Melbourne improved slightly on its first quarter effort. The Roos still had trouble clearing from defence, which meant the Eagles could apply all sorts of pressure that invariably led to more goals. North did look a bit better going forward, but still couldn't capitalise on all its chances. Scott Selwood has been great for the Eagles with 18 touches, the most on the ground. Priddis, Embley, Butler, Gaff and Glass have all been good for the Eagles as well - but the whole team is really standing up. Swallow and Ziebell have the most touches for the Roos and Thompson and Firrito have tried hard but there are few shining lights for North - the Roos have been well beaten, in most of the stats as well as in one-on-one contests around the ground. A disappointing performance from North, but very impressive display from the Eagles. They lead by 54.

Q2 - 31.22: SIREN. Another very impressive quarter by the Eagles. They lead by 54 points at the main break.

Q2 - 29.32: BEHIND. Brilliant bit of play from the stoppage deserved a goal. Naitanui roved his tap and got a nice handpass out. Cox ended up with the ball and had a shot from the pocket but he hit the post.

Q2 - 25.57: BEHIND. North Melbourne having a few more shots towards the end of this quarter but they can't take advantage of them. This time Thomas wins the free kick but his shot from 45 metres out is no good.

Q2 - 23.41: GOAL! Boomer Harvey gets the Roos second, it was a great kick after a nice gather from the stoppage. A little bit of joy for North fans.

Q2 - 22.19: GOAL! Pat McGinnity brings the house down with a great goal on the move from 25.

Q2 - 21.23: BEHIND. Hurn rushes it through, beating his opponent Anthony to the ball. North just can't get the ball inside 50 well.

Q2 - 20.47: BEHIND. Shuey took off and had a long-range shot. Crowd loved it but the kick was just offline.

Q2 - 19.49: GOAL! Eagles get the quick clearance out of the middle. Darling grabs the ball in the pocket and dribbles a goal easy as you like. Eagles have all the answers.

Q2 - 18.43: GOAL! North Melbourne finally score a major, deep into the second quarter. Campbell was the scorer, as the ball dribbled off hands at the marking contest he ran into goal.

Q2 - 17.57: BEHIND. Swallow grabs the ball at the stoppage, feeds a handpass out to Thomas, and Thomas has a snap at goal. It was the simplest of shots but North are having an awful afternoon.

SUBSTITUTION WEST COAST: As expected, Brennan gets a run for the Eagles and it looks like season over for Beau Waters - looks to be a serious achilles injury.

Q2 - 14.49: GOAL! Hill got the ball to Embley - Hill is really just doing as he pleases at the moment. Embley's kick is a helicopter mongrel but it floats through no worries. Eagles still all over the Kangaroos here.

Q2 - 13.36: BEHIND. Priddis sends the ball inside 50 and both Hill and Lynch fly in the same pack - but Hill is the one who pulls it down! His kick is not a great one though - he hits the post.

INJURY WATCH: Beau Waters is being carried off the ground by trainers with some kind of leg injury. The sub Brennan is warming up on the boundary line. On the replay there was no real contact on Waters, but he pulled up straight away and could hardly make it off the ground. Not good news for West Coast.

Q2 - 7.11: GOAL!! North Melbourne were absolutely no good in defence and a scrappy handpass in the goalsquare caused a turnover in the pocket. Lynch ended up with the ball and from about row 3 in the grandstand slid the ball home, easy as you like. Great goal!

Q2 - 5.52: BEHIND. Masten found Kennedy with a poor kick inside 50, but the Eagles can't seem to make a mistake. That is, until Kennedy's kick fades across the face of goal.

INJURY WATCH: Both Schofield and Selwood back up and running around for the Eagles. They seem to be recovered.

Q2 - 3.49: BEHIND. A poster for the Roos. This is their third for the game. Swallow was the player off-target.

Q2 - 2.20: BEHIND. While the Eagles players were down North worked the ball to have another shot on goal. Hansen again, and again he misses.

INJURY WATCH: Schofield and Selwood smashed into one another in a marking contest and both are still down. Schofield looks to be in the most trouble though.

Q2 - Second quarter underway.

Q1 WRAP: The first couple of minutes of that quarter were hard and contested and it looked as though this was going to be a close game. But then the Eagles happened. They killed North with run and spread. Naitanui and Cox dominated the ruck, and North's players always seemed to be trailing their opponents to the contest. When North finally did get the ball forward, they could not hit a target and Hurn and Glass in particular picked balls off at will. Darling was fantastic with three goals. Swallow did his best for the Roos but an even spread of hard workers for the Eagles were too much. Eagles by 43.

Q1 - 29.57: SIREN. Absolutely massive first quarter by the Eagles. They lead by 43 points.

Q1 - 28.30: GOAL! That one hurt North Melbourne - the Roos had a chance to score their first goal but fumbled right in front of goal. On the rebound Hurn sent a beautiful ball in to Darling who kicked his third goal for the term. Amazing play by the Eagles.

Q1 - 26.23: BEHIND. Roos push forward again but Wells' shot is no good. Better attcking play from the Roos though.

Q1 - 25.13: BEHIND. Bastinac sends a ball in to Hansen, who takes a mark inside 50 for the Roos and has a shot but it is off line. First time the Roos have looked anything like scoring since Wells' shot in the first few minutes.

Q1 - 23.18: BEHIND. McMahon switched the ball for North - and somehow picked out Andrew Embley across half-forward for the Eagles. Embley found Darling with a short kick but Darling could not finish. North Melbourne lucky to get away with that one.

Q1 - 19.58: GOAL!! Luke Shuey wins a free for a high tackle inside 50 - North Melbourne's defence is rattled. Shuey's set shot did not look like missing. Eagles by 38 points!

Q1 - 16.43: GOAL! Eagles again set up nicely from defence, working the ball carefully. Naitanui gets it and under pressure floats a long ball to the top of the quare - where defender Eric Mackenzie marks. He kicks his first goal in AFL footy! Eagles are flying!

Q1 - 13.46: GOAL! Eagles go coast to coast! Their spread is killing the Roos. Eagles rebounded from defensive 50, and the ball ended up with Darling on the wing. Darling took off, ran a long way inside 50 and finished beautifully.

Q1 - 12.06: GOAL!! Naitanui took a huge pack mark off a North Melbourne kick in from deep in defence. He passed it off to Embley who absolutely unleashed from around 55 metres out. Massive kick, massive goal!

Q1 - 10.04: GOAL! Another one to the Eagles. North are looking troubled by the heat early and the Eagles are just too quick. This time, Darling took a nice mark about 35 metres out and his kick was a beauty.

Q1 - 8.17: GOAL! Eagles draw first blood through Josh Hill. Lynch somehow shrugged a tackle and found space just outside 50. He bombed the ball in long and Hill took a mark about a metre out. He could not miss from the et shot.

Q1 - 6.53: BEHIND. The Eagles push forward again but Darling's ball is seen through for a rushed behind by the Roos.

Q1 - 6.11: BEHIND. Eagles on the fast break out of defence. Some scrappy contests all around the ground but this time Kennedy got a lucky bounce on 50. He ran inside but couldn't finish.

Q1 - 3.38: BEHIND. The Eagles get a rushed behind after some Naitanui brilliance got the ball moving with speed down the wing. Kennedy couldn't beat Grima to the ball though.

Q1 - 1.57: BEHIND. Roos awarded a lucky free kick in the middle of the ground but they made the most of it, working it well through the centre. Harvey got a nice ball into Wells but he couldn't make the Eagles pay.

Q1 - Play is underway at Patersons Stadium, lots of hard tackling in the first few seconds.

Nothing quite like the roar of the crowd as the anthem finishes! Both teams taking their places around the ground now. Last final of the first week about to begin!

3.11 pm: Here we go...both teams lining up for the national anthem.

3.03 pm: Both teams are out on the ground now, around 10 minutes away from the first bounce.

It's a warm, sunny day over in Perth and the final teams are in. Brennan will start as sub for the Eagles and Harper will wear the green vest for North Melbourne. No late changes for either team.
