The recently retired Carlton champion told 3AW's grand final eve breakfast he was working as a fund manager.

Judd said he did not see himself taking a job as a football coach or commentator, while acknowledging a lot of players said the same thing then came to miss the game.

"I'll definitely be having a year out of footy and I think I'll probably move away from it," he said.

Judd said he loved playing football, but had never much enjoyed attending meetings about the game, or thinking and talking about it.

"For me to go into coaching or anything in media, would be committing myself to the parts of football I often found challenging, and I wouldn't be able to do the one bit I really loved," he said.

"It would almost be taunting me."

When asked whether his high school Caulfield Grammar could entice him back to play for their old boys' team, Judd joked he had urged his wife Rebecca not to let him pull on the football boots again.

"I told my wife if I ever threatened to play another game she should creep in with a cushion and put the cushion over my mouth and just pat me to sleep," he laughed.

"I'm pretty confident I've played my last game."
