* Two-time Geelong premiership defender Josh Hunt is on his way to the Giants. Discarded by the Cats, 31-year-old Hunt follows other experienced AFL players given the chance to finish their careers at the expansion club.

Giants football manager Graeme Allan was somewhat cagey on Wednesday when discussing whether Hunt would move north.
"You might be able to … yeah, you can lock him in," he eventually said on afl.com.au’s Trade Radio.

Allan even predicted some other experienced players would join GWS by the end of the week."Stephen's (Silvagni) working really hard at the moment … to try and do that," Allan said. "I'm confident that we'll get another two or three through the door.’’

* Another two players have re-signed with Essendon, but Stewart Crameri's anticipated trade to the Western Bulldogs remains unresolved. The Bombers announced on Wednesday that defender Kyle Hardingham had signed a one-year contract extension and young midfielder Nick O'Brien had secured a two-year deal. There was speculation of a mass player exodus from Essendon following their supplements scandal, but Crameri and fellow key forward Scott Gumbleton appear the only likely departures. Essendon are wrangling with the Bulldogs over a deal for Crameri, with the trade deadline two days away.

* Emma Quayle
reports that Collingwood has traded Heath Shaw to Greater Western Sydney, with the Magpies' willingness to pay part of Shaw's salary next season crucial in finalising the deal. After several days of negotiations, the clubs ultimately agreed to a straight swap of players that will see Shaw move to Sydney and Giants youngster Taylor Adams play for Collingwood next year. * Dom Tyson maintains he wasn't actively seeking to leave Greater Western Sydney, but did not hestiate when, on a beach in Hawaii he received a call from his manager outlining the proposed deal in which he would join Melbourne after 13 games in two years for the Giants. ''It all happened pretty quickly,'' he said. Read More

* Shaun Edwards was the centre of interest from Essendon and Adelaide but chose to return to familiar surrounds of Melbourne to restart a career that had stalled at Greater Western Sydney. Jon Pierik reports from Ireland where Edwards is touring with the Indigenous All-Stars. Read More

* North Melbourne free-agent signing Nick Dal Santo says he is impressed with the young midfield talent at his new club and believes he needs to add more versatility to his game, including contributing "a bit more on the scoreboard". ‘‘If I'm not adaptable I don’t think they’ll be a lot a opportunities for me because I think the North Melbourne midfield in particular are so young and exciting that I think I'd I don’t do these other things I might not be there for very long," Dal Santo told SEN on Wednesday morning. He said he was looking forward to helping guide the Kangaroos players as they develop.  ‘‘I was shocked to hear how young particularly their midfielders were and I thought that’s a good sign. "I know they lost 10 games by (18 points or less) and I thought that’s a good sign that they’re competitive at that stage. I thought I could bring to the club just a little bit of experience, a little bit of understanding of the game and game scenarios, these type of things that these young guys at North will cherish and will be able to hang on to for the next 10 years of their careers."

* All eyes are on Brisbane Lions with several young players requesting trades back to their home states. Jake Niall and Emma Quayle report that Carlton will pick up Brisbane Lions midfielder Sam Docherty for pick 33, while North Melbourne has made a bid for another departing in Patrick Karnezis. • There won't be an exodus. If I was a recruiting manager, I'd think twice before recruiting any player facing career ending suspension. Why take the risk? Hell, there's a strong possibility Essendon won't even be playing next year.

    • hahaha Nick,

      I would hope not. I wouldnt envy the team you ended up doing the recruiting for if you cant understand the basic and obvious facts that there is no evidence that Essendon have broken any rules. If ASADA has spent 9 months investigating and still have not laid charges anyone with a tad of common sense would figure its not going to happen.

      But then again maybe you should tell the clubs chasing Essendon players your opinion, because there is a few of them.

  • I am happy to abide by almost everything Bucks does, but pushing not Heater out. He's ADHD and his character is not going to change - surely we could have lived with his occasional outburst, they are more than compensated for by his "good" acts. Farewell Heater, we'll never forget your smother in the 2010 GF - or the compassion you showed to a small boy who had lost sight of his parents at a clinic many years ago (and will now need a new jumper as he has worn 39 with pride ever since.....) Good luck at the Giants.

        • Appears a win-win with GWS getting a premium defender in his prime. The Pies loading up with young talent - Adams joining 3 x 1st rounders from 2012 and 2 x top10 2013. GWS have plenty of young talent and they need some premium experience. Ward has been a great buy. Davis ok but Scully no better than their own talent. With Mumford, Shaw and some maturing young talent such as Cameron, they are heading in the right direction.

          • GWS lose a promising talent to Collingwood
            Collingwood offload a goose to GWS.

            The AFL can put makeup on a pig (GWS), but its still is & always will be....a Pig.

            • Collingwood has done really well with the trading. Heath Shaw has issues that can cost games and can clearly be riled by the likes of Angus Monfries. Jesse White looked really good at times and will work well with Cloke. He also has excellent sleeve tattoos, which Swann, Beams and Elliot will appreciate. Good young midfielder coming in that more than compensates for the injury prone Thomas. They have also picked up a few draft selections. The rat pack to become the tat pack. But where will the premiership tattoo go? Hopefully won't be required.
