It was a disastrous year for the Lions, who were only saved from the wooden spoon by a much-depleted Essendon team.
The string of poor performances had meant fewer fans bought Brisbane memberships and showed up to games than in previous years.
On the club's website, chief executive Greg Swann said the Lions wanted to become relevant again.
"That involves a lot of hard work and we are up for the challenge," he said.
Although a significant financial blow for the club, Brisbane's loss pales in significance compared to the Bombers, who announced a $9.8m loss. The result was also well ahead of the $3.5m loss Brisbane posted for 2013/14.
