Cameron Ling has shelved his full-time coaching aspirations – at least for the short term– and will remain at Channel Seven in a commentary role despite a number of senior assistant coaching offers.

Ling has told both Melbourne and Geelong that he plans to retain his commentary duties with the Seven Network for at least the next two years.

The Cats premiership captain has been the subject of coaching speculation all season but has recently cast doubt on those aspirations, claiming misgivings regarding the commitment required along with balancing the needs of his young family.

"It was a hard decision because some really good people were having conversations with me about going and working at their football clubs," Ling said.

He said three clubs had put firmand "very flattering offers and roles" in front of him.

But after talking with his partner Nicole, who is due to give birth to the couple’s second child this weekend, he decided to continue working in the media.

"It’s been really good fun with really good people and I still get front-row seats to some great games of footy," he said.
