The club announced on Wednesday that Armfield had signed a new contract to play on in 2016, just a week before the AFL draft injects the competition with a new round of talented youngsters.
Armfield, 28, was this year awarded the league's Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award for his work as ambassador for the Odyssey House Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre.
At the time he was quoted as saying he wanted to change the stigma associated with drug and alcohol addiction.
He was also recognised for his involvement with community programs at the Royal Children's Hospital and Parkville Juvenile Justice Centre.
The popular player has played 125 games for Carlton but missed the the last eight games of this year's home-and-away season with a broken arm.
He spent much of the 2014 season playing in the reserves after a stronger season in 2013, when he played 24 games.
In 2007 West Coast traded Chris Judd and draft pick 46, Armfield, to Carlton in exchange for Josh Kennedy, draft pick three Chris Masten and pick 20, Tony Notte.
Notte was delisted after playing two games for West Coast.
