Adelaide and Essendon will contest the first game of the 2013 AFL season as part of an opening round spread across two weekends.

The Crows and Bombers will meet at AAMI Stadium on Friday, March 22 with Fremantle and West Coast to clash the following night at Patersons Stadium.

Richmond and Carlton will clash in a traditional Thursday night game at the MCG the following week.

With Adelaide playing in the season-opener, it means the Crows will be playing in the opening match of the season for the first time since they joined the competition in 1991. The Crows thrashed Hawthorn by 86 points that night in Adelaide.
