Gabrielle Trainor to join AFL commission

Gabrielle Trainor will become the AFL's fourth woman commissioner in a reshuffle to be announced by the league today.

Trainor and former Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold replace the outgoing Sam Mostyn and Chris Langford in a move which appeases both the push for wider Victorian representation at the AFL's board table as well as retaining two women.

Trainor, a lawyer, journalist and former public sector executive, has been a founding member of the Greater Western Sydney board. Both her father and grandfather were North Melbourne presidents amid a lifelong football pedigree.

Chairman Mike Fitzpatrick communicated the commission changes to club presidents late on Tuesday and extolled the outstanding credentials of both Newbold and Trainor.
