AFL star Leigh Montagna spent last week at training battling temperatures in the 40s, but now he's feeling the heat more at home after a fire at a Melbourne restaurant upset his wedding plans.

The St Kilda on-baller is due to be married to Erinn Byrne next month at venue unknown after the Stokehouse restaurant went down in flames last week.

"We planned on getting married at the Stokehouse on Saturday week (February 1)," Montagna told reporters on Monday.

"So there's been a change of plans. It has thrown a spanner in the works.

"We haven't got a venue as yet. We spent the weekend brainstorming.

"My fiancee has taken a couple of days off so she'll get onto it today."

Montagna is juggling an intense pre-season under new coach Alan Richardson with a major upheaval on the home front.

Asked which project was attracting more of his attention, he gave the right answer.

"It's a pretty special moment so the wedding is probably the priority," he said.

"I'm sure it will still end up being a good day."

Montagna, 30, joked that none of his mates would dare criticise any aspect of the wedding.

"We're looking at it as a positive. The pressure's off now," he said.

"No one can bag our wedding when we tell them we had two weeks to organise it.

"It's a no-lose situation.

"It was hard work planning a wedding for 10 months but to get it done in two weeks will test her out.

"She's been a good sport. There's not much you can do."
