Got to leave it there today, folks, could be a biggish sort of new day on the Melbourne front! Thanks for all the questions and comments once again, really enjoying our discussions and debates!

Have your say on the footy issues that matter to you. Leave a comment of return at noon to blog live with Rohan Connolly.

Here's some issues on the agenda this morning:

A Freo flag is no fantasy.

And:

The heroics of Adam Goodes; the ongoing farce of video goal reviews; and the ongoing disaster at Melbourne.

  • A 94pt carlton victory and andrew walker clearly the best player on the ground by an eon and i check the round 10 votes and John Pierik has 2 GWS players in the top 3 on the ground and more galling Callan Ward as the best player on the ground... now i have to ask is John P all there or does he just hate Carlton that much????

so back to reality for the blues in the coming 4 weeks or can we upset some of the best teams going around?

    • Rohan Connolly Hi Planet, Have just discussed with JP (who, incidentally, is a Carlton supporter!), and his take is that while Walker was pretty food and vote-worthy, Ward was BOG because he was the dominant midfielder in the game in a team which was smashed. Pretty sure Garry Lyon on Triple M gave Ward best also. Next month is a huge challenge, obviously, think if they can win two of next four against Essendon, Hawthorn, Sydney and Collingwood, they'll be doing OK.

    • ok interesting spin, whilst he did play well the blues didn't need to tag him as they were smashing the giants had it been closer i think he would have been closed down... sorry JP... but as for garry lyon wouldn't pay much credence to anything he says

    • Planet Earth, you must be from a different planet as it was not that long ago that Collingwood smashed Carlton yet Judd got the three votes.

  • Had a question about struggling teams (e.g. Melb, Port, Dogs, GWS, etc). From what I can see, all the players and coaches try hard, and there are professionals all around them helping, but every week there has to be losers. To me it seams that success is more about how many (self-motivated) champions you have in your team than it is about an individual coach. And so for struggling teams like mine (Port) we just have to sit and wait until the 'champion player" factor builds up again. Does that sound right to you?

Melbourne - trying hard? Frawley and Jones and the only two that look like they'd earn their spots elsewhere. Dawes had a crack as well.

    • Rohan Connolly Hi Dave, I do think there's a tendency to blame the coach too much when things aren't going well. Surely, the job of motivating a player has to be that player's responsibility as much as his coach's! Champion players are obviously very important, but I think these days it's just as much about evenness across the 22, Sydney the best possible example.

    • How good would Nathan Jones be in a real team... He can come to the Blues tomorrow if he wants.

I love watching him play, but when he threw up his arms the other week, it sorts said "ive had enough of trying"

As for sacking the coach, Melbourne did that.. what did it get them?? Dean Bailey must be laughing hard right now.
