The Blues were missing several key players in their first win for the season, against St Kilda on Anzac Day.
Star midfielder Chris Judd did not play with a back complaint while young forward Troy Menzel was recovering from a calf injury.
Meanwhile, big man Matthew Kreuzer is beginning to make his comeback after repeated foot injuries.
Malthouse said he would watch the team train on Wednesday before making any decisions about how they should be played.
"We won't be carrying any players who won't get through the game," he said.
In Kreuzer's case, Malthouse would be "delighted" if he were to get through 60 to 70 per cent of a VFL game.
Collingwood goes into Friday's game coming off an impressive win against Essendon in the clubs' traditional Anzac Day fixture.
Malthouse was asked by the AFL to pick his opponent for Friday's record-breaking match.
The round five clash will see Malthouse notch 715 games coached, surpassing Jock McHale's record.
Malthouse, who led the Pies to the 2010 flag, said the moment he was struck by the magnitude of his record-breaking achievement was last year when the AFL asked the question.
