Nick Smith signs contract extension with Sydney Swans

Premiership-winning player Nick Smith has pledged his commitment to the Sydney Swans until 2018, after signing a two-year contract extension.

The 27-year-old defender has played 142 games in the red and white since being recruited from the 2007 rookie draft.

Apart from winning the premiership with the Swans in 2012, Smith was also included in the All-Australian side in 2014.

Swans general manager Tom Harley says they are rapt to have a player of Smith's calibre extend his contract.

"With Nick he's the absolute clubman," Harley said. "He's been a really high level contributor on the field, an All-Australian, a premiership player and consistently a top-10 club champion finisher.

"He's got the runs on the board and also what he contributes to the club off the field is fantastic."

Smith joins young gun Luke Parker in recommitting to the Swans in 2016.
