It will surprise few to learn that the dynamic midfielder won the 'Carji' Greeves Medal, after he polled a record 35 votes to take home the Brownlow Medal less than two weeks ago.

Captain Joel Selwood was runner-up at Geelong, while small defender Corey Enright, who this week announced he would be retiring from football at the age of 35, came in third.

Already considered a champion at Adelaide, where he won the best and fairest award last year, Dangerfield has enjoyed his best season yet after moving to the Cats for 2016.

He had an average of nearly 32 possessions a game and was a game-changer for Geelong through the centre.

He has been named in the All-Australian team on five occasions.

Veteran Harry Taylor was given the Tom Harley award for best clubman, and 21-year-old defender Jake Kolodjashnij was named best young player.

Daniel Menzel was chosen as community champion for coaching junior football, promoting the Barwon Health Foundation and visiting sick children in hospital.
