Melbourne have continued to be active in the AFL trade period, snaring North Melbourne key position player Cam Pedersen in exchange for Demons utility Jordie Gysberts.

The deal will also involve a swap of late-round draft picks to be finalised at the conclusion of the trade period at 1400 (AEDT) today.

Pedersen, 25, played 14 games for the Kangaroos in 2011, but could only manage two senior appearances this year.

The ruck-forward won the best and fairest award for North Melbourne's VFL affiliates Werribee in 2012.

The Demons have also recruited Chris Dawes (from Collingwood), Shannon Byrnes (Geelong) and David Rodan (Port Adelaide) in the free agency/draft period.

Gysberts played 19 games for the Demons, but only one of those was in the 2012 campaign.

In another deal completed early today, Richmond snared key forward Aaron Edwards from North Melbourne for a late-round draft pick.

Edwards, 28, played 82 games for West Coast and the Kangaroos.

Port Adelaide also brought in another player today, claiming defender Campbell Heath from Sydney in exchange for pick 72 in next month’s national draft.

The Swans will send their second pick 85 to the Power.

Heath has undergone two knee reconstructions during his time with the Swans and has made only two senior appearances for Sydney.

  • shame to see cam go as he was a real go'er but hope this new guy can bring something..if it weren't 4 our gun draft recruiting we be shot..r we the only club with such a low no. of players bought from other clubs..have we eva payd 100% of the salary cap??? Edwards liked the good times too much and was a bit small but will suit Richmond as long as he doesn't negatively influence guys like Martin
