St Kilda has added former West Coast assistant coach Tony Micale to its senior coaching panel.

Micale, who was involved with the Eagles' 2006 premiership win during his time at West Coast, will assist midfield coach Dean Laidley, and has also been appointed as the manager of the Saints' player academy.

St Kilda coach Scott Watters said Micale's addition was a "key appointment" for the club.

"Adding someone with Tony's knowledge and experience to the coaching panel next season provides great balance to our assistant coaching team," Watters said.

Micale, who was with West Coast from 2003-2008, claimed the AFL assistant coach of the year award in 2007.

He has also coached extensively in the WAFL, with East Fremantle, South Fremantle and East Perth.
