The Gold Coast Suns got some happy Christmas news on Thursday, when key forward Peter Wright signed a new contract to stay at the struggling expansion club.

Callum Ah Chee also recommitted to the club this week, ensuring the Suns' first selections from the 2014 and 2015 drafts will stick around at least until the end of 2019.
Wright was previously contracted with the Suns until the end of 2017 and earlier this month spoke publicly of his desire to stay on the Gold Coast.
In a statement on the club's website, Wright said his close friendship with teammate Touk Miller was one of the main reasons he wanted re-sign.
Wright and Miller played together as juniors at the Calder Cannons.
"It's been a big factor for me (having Touk on the Gold Coast); I've known Touk for 10 years," Wright said.
"I feel really comfortable with him and coming up here at the same time, we were able to feed off each other and immediately feel comfortable at the club.
"I think that helped us both settle into the club quickly and from there, living with each other now and enjoying our time."
