First-year players Tim Taranto, Harry Perryman and the yet-to-debut Will Setterfield have signed two-year extensions that keep them at GWS until at least 2020.

It was another shrewd piece of early business by the club – locking away another trio of first-round draft talent before rival clubs even think about sniffing about.

All three came through last year's draft – Taranto at pick two, before the club matched rival bids to secure academy products Setterfield and Perryman at picks five and 14 respectively.

But the biggest unsigned fish on the Giants' books continues to court significant interest from Melbourne clubs after another best-on-ground performance in Saturday's win over Essendon, which sent the Giants top of the AFL for the first time in their history.

Kelly is reportedly weighing up a $9 million, nine-year offer from North Melbourne – a contract the Giants will not match financially. Their two-year contract extension for the 22-year-old superstar remains on the table.

GWS has squared away most of its top-end talent to long-term deals in the past 12 months, including Jonathon Patton, Dylan Shiel, Nick Haynes, Zac Williams and Adam Tomlinson. Kelly would complete the already impressive looking long-term jigsaw.

"There's no doubt that a number of our players have put pen to paper because of what they like here," Cameron said.

"They like the professionalism, they like the way we're looked after on the field and off the field and we look after our own which is exactly what we wanted to set out and create.

"There's going to be big offers like these that are in front of some of our players like Josh. We know how much we value Josh and he knows we value him that much and I'm sure that'll take care of itself over the coming weeks and months – I think he'll make the right decision."

The Kelly situation certainly won't be the last of its kind faced by this rapidly improving club.

Their list-building strategy, unlike the Gold Coast's, continues to reap rewards.

GWS has the strongest core of youngsters in the league, and they're the players who are targeted for long-term contract extensions.

Fringe youngsters who don't quite make the grade at the Giants, but could do so elsewhere, become tradeable commodities. They can be swapped for superior draft picks, and GWS then gets better access to the next crop of youngsters coming through.

At the start of season 2017, there were 27 ex-Giants on the playing lists of other AFL clubs. Carlton, who GWS plays on Sunday this weekend, has nine of those.

Those who remain in the orange and charcoal, like Taranto, Setterfield and Perryman, know they have genuinely earned their position.

"It's not just about their talent," Cameron said.

"Off the field they've made a huge impact. They can mix with anyone, whether it's a 33-year-old Steve Johnson at the back end of his career or a guy that's 25 and has been here for seven years, they've got a great rapport with all the playing group but also the coaching group and the staff as well.

"They've been brought up really really well, mum and dad and the teachers they've had throughout their schooling, they've done a fantastic job.

"It was a no-brainer for us to secure these guys for two years on top. We look forward to a long career with these three and it just sends a great message that they want to be here as well."
