Phillips moved from GWS to the Blues as part of a mega-trade, along with Liam Sumner, Jed Lamb and Lachie Plowman.
He was used as a back-up ruckman at the Giants, who drafted him as a rookie in 2010, and has played just 14 senior games.
Phillips said it felt good to be able to complete a full pre-season after injuries had interrupted his progress in previous years.
"It's hard to know where you sit so early, but I'm pretty confident about where I am at the moment," he said.
"I'm pretty happy with where my body's at."
Phillips said the team had a lot of tall players who were in good form, but he hoped to be selected to play in the NAB Challenge.
Although Carlton was an older, more established club than the Giants, there were similarities between the two, he said.
"Coming here we've got a lot of new players and new coaches which was similar to the first couple of years at the Giants," he said.
But Phillips would not say which of the teams were better placed to find success this year.
He said there was a positive atmosphere at Carlton this year.
