The intercepting blonde-haired backman will likely avoid surgery, but still leaves a gaping hole in the GWS back six after a stellar start to season 2017.
"We'll now map out the right program for him to ensure he returns to the field in peak condition later in the year," Giants head of athletic performance David Joyce said.
In better news for the club, ruckman Shane Mumford (ankle) and key defender Aidan Corr (buttock) have been cleared of injury, while Sam Reid's minor hamstring issue will be monitored throughout the week.
Meanwhile, midfield star Stephen Coniglio is expected to be fit for his first start of the AFL season against St Kilda on Friday night after overcoming the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season, while co-captain Phil Davis hopes to return from a minor hamstring complaint.
