Coach Tim Schmidt has named the West Australian import just in time for his side's first home game at Blacktown International Sportspark, with the Giants desperately seeking their first win of the AFL Women's season.

Swanson was sorely missed in losses to Adelaide and Carlton in the opening two rounds with GWS already under strength from the loss of fellow marquee Renee Forth for the season.

The 21-year-old injured her hamstring in the week leading up to round one and was expected to miss three matches, but returns for the Dockers game ahead of schedule.

"I had a little bit of a niggle over the weekend beforehand, I was just real tight and I came into that training session just on a moderate load anyway and as soon as I had my first kick in that training session I just felt it pull and grab," Swanson said.

"I went for a scan on it on the Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon I got the phone call from the doctor. He originally said it was a three-week injury.

"Working with the physios and with the resources that we've got available, I was hoping that they'd be able to push me through a little earlier and I guess they have by about four days, I'm ready to go."

Last week's plucky 13-point loss against Carlton was a major improvement for GWS after the first-round flogging by Adelaide, and it doesn't get any easier on Saturday with a classy Fremantle outfit in town.

The Dockers are winless themselves but managed a strong win over the unbeaten Adelaide Crows in pre-season and Swanson said her side couldn't afford to take the visitors lightly.

"Freo deserve as much respect as any other team, on paper they're an unreal team with unreal talent and coming from WA myself I've played a lot of football with a lot of those girls and they are a very good side and probably just yet to click as a team," Swanson said.

"The one thing that we've said is we can't let that be this weekend. We've got to step up and take it up a few gears from last weekend. It's probably going to be the hardest game so far for us.

"It's good that the girls were disappointed [after the Carlton game] because it's pushed them even further. They're definitely not content with the way they played last week.

"This week we've just focused on the things that we need to get right and it's just little things. Just brain farts I guess, lacks in concentration, with 15-minute quarters you can't really afford to do that."

Kate Stanton also returns to the side this weekend after her late withdrawal through illness from the Carlton game.
