Housemates Patton and Coniglio were invited to Matthews' abode to celebrate Tuesday's announcement of the former's contract extension, which locks the 2011 No.1 draft pick into the Giants until at least the end of 2020.

Patton feels he and his young teammates are close to the first of what shapes to be several flags for the club over the next decade, a conclusion Coniglio came to in September last year when he penned an extension that keeps him in the orange and charcoal until the end of 2019.

Fellow youngsters Adam Tomlinson and Zac Williams reached the same decision in the past couple of weeks, while big guns Callan Ward, Tom Scully, Rory Lobb and Shane Mumford have also extended their contracts for the long haul.

And likely to be standing next to Patton in the star-studded Giants forward line for the next four seasons is left-foot spearhead Jeremy Cameron, who extended his stay in 2015 for a whopping five further years.

The latest re-signing at the club brimming with the AFL's most talented playing list is another strong signal of intent from the Giants that they wish to be a powerhouse for many years.

"It all comes back to that connection, we got here when we were so young, that first year I remember losing to Hawthorn by about 180 points on the MCG," Patton said.

"We beat the Hawks last year by about 80 points – in the space of five years, a lot can change. It was pretty cool to see the change over the years and hopefully we can see a bit more change in the next coming years.

"We didn't really speak about it [staying together] too much, it was just a general knowledge between us that if we stayed together and got through the tough times and if we worked hard on the track ... and really bought into the Giants, Sydney, and our game plan then the sky was the limit for us.

"That's why a lot of our guys have stayed and hopefully some more guys will stay, I'm not sure why you'd want to leave to be honest."

Patton kicked 38 goals in 23 appearances for the Giants last season, including four majors in the six-point preliminary final loss to the Western Bulldogs.

At times he showed all the promise that led to the Giants drafting him with its first pick in 2011, his dominant presence in the attacking half and the ability to kick goals from every angle.

But the general consensus is there's more to come from the 23-year-old, who looks to have finally dispatched to the rear-view mirror the two knee reconstructions that have stunted his career.

He managed only 32 games in his first four seasons, and has spoken at length about his willingness to pay back club for sticking by him during his injury-riddled years.

"The Giants stuck with me through that tough time, I always said that when my career got back on track I'd definitely repay the faith," Patton said.

"I'm from Melbourne and I can't picture myself living back there, as much as I love my family and friends.

"This is my home now, I love the Giants, I love Sydney, I love the boys, I love Dave [Matthews], [coach] Leon [Cameron], everyone.

"A lot of us played footy together from a young age and got drafted together. I know some boys that have gone back to Melbourne, they miss those times that we have in the locker room or on the way home in a car full of five people.

"I think I'm capable of anything and I think that's what the Giants believe in me as well."
