Kurt Tippett, Isaac Heeney, Jarrad McVeigh and Gary Rohan will all be considered for selection this week with the Swans desperate to arrest their worst start to an AFL season in 24 years.

But the club didn't make it through last week entirely unscathed, with ruckman Sam Naismith going down with a medial ligament injury leaving him in a knee brace and facing four weeks on the sideline.

Tippett's return from an ankle injury will carry with it plenty of rucking responsibility, while McVeigh would provide a much-needed injection of experience into the young Swans' outfit after overcoming a pre-season calf tear.

Heeney has shaken off a bout of glandular fever and will provide plenty of grunt and flair in midfield or up forward, and Rohan offers another avenue to goal but may need to find form in the reserves before an AFL recall.

"It's just a matter of who we pick and we'll be coming to that decision tomorrow [Wednesday]," Swans coach John Longmire said.

"It's great to have the players back available, getting Tommy Papley back last week and getting those four available for selection this week.

"Tippett hasn't missed a lot of football and did a pretty big pre-season so fitness wise he's in pretty good shape.

"The others have been training for the last few weeks and training well. We'll just make that decision based upon some more knowledge after training today, how they pull up tomorrow and make the call. Whether they all play yet, we're not quite sure.

"We'll address each individual case as we see fit. Each of those have got different backgrounds so we'll look at each of those backgrounds and see how they're all pulling up after training and make a considered decision with all the information in front of us."

The Swans have lost their last two AFL games against GWS and are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start should the Giants make it three straight this weekend.

And while no team has ever qualified for the top eight after losing its opening four matches, Sydney are confident their playing list is strong enough to turn things around and finish in the finals for a 19th time in the past 22 years.

"We've got the right team to be able to bounce back and get our season back on track," midfielder Luke Parker said.

"We have a lot of confidence in the standard of football we can play. We've been a good team for a number of seasons and you don't just lose that in a month of football.

"It's always exciting to have blokes like Macca and Isaac and Tippo back in action at their best.

"They're in the best 22 and they've all been leaders in the club. They've been so crucial for this club's success in the past.

"We'll run out with the team who we run out with on the weekend and have full faith.

"I feel we know what we need to get back to. I need to improve as an individual and keep needing to drive the other guys to get better as well," Parker said.

"The main thing for us is that we have weight of numbers, and we have a lot more guys playing up to the standard they can play to."

The most recent AFL clash between the two clubs was in last season's spiteful qualifying final, which the Giants won by 36 points at ANZ Stadium.

Veteran Giants forward Steve Johnson copped a week's suspension for a high bump off the ball on Josh Kennedy, and missed the club's preliminary final loss to the Western Bulldogs.

GWS ruckman Shane Mumford also found himself in hot water after the game following a mental-health sledge directed towards Swans star Lance Franklin.
