Rampe will play his 100th AFL game, and his first since round one, after which he tripped over a chain in Moore Park and fractured his arm during a morning run.

Coach John Longmire has also received a boost to his attacking end with Kurt Tippett and Gary Rohan both returning after a strong showing in the NEAFL last weekend.

Tippett will be required to shoulder plenty of the ruck load in place of Sam Naismith, who has been ruled out with a medial ligament injury suffered in last weekend's win over North Melbourne.

Jarrad McVeigh also misses against St Kilda with the hamstring strain he picked up in last week's two-goal effort against the Kangaroos, while Harry Marsh has been omitted as the Swans slowly but surely claw their way back to full strength.

The inclusion of Rampe is significant against an in-form and tall Saints forward line, which has registered wins over Carlton, GWS and Hawthorn in the last three weeks.

"It's been good to have him [Rampe] come through the training program. He's done a lot of running over a long time now since he's hurt his arm," Longmire said.

"He's been able to do all the competitive work this week, he did a lot of it today and pulled up really well so we're really pleased to get him back in. He's an important player for us.

"They [St Kilda] have got a lot going for them, they're really flexible, they're able to run really hard and transfer the ball well from their defensive 50 into their forward 50 and they win the contested ball.

"It's a real challenge for us. Our form's been a bit better but we need to go again to another level to match the Saints."

Tippett booted four goals in last weekend's thumping NEAFL win over the Canberra Demons, and will play just his fourth AFL game of the season.

He was rested for most of the last quarter last weekend, but Longmire said he'd done enough to earn a recall to the senior team.

"Kurt didn't quite get to the end of the game last week, he pulled up in the last quarter and that's the reason why we played him in the reserves to be able to have the ability to do that," Longmire said.

"Gary [Rohan] played a good game and he's pulled up really well."

Longmire said Aliir Aliir had also played well in the NEAFL last weekend, and looks set to remain there for the foreseeable future with Rampe now fit. Aliir was withdrawn from the Swans' first win this year against Brisbane after turning up late to a training session in the lead-up and has played just three AFL games this season.

Victory over the Saints would improve the Swans to 3-6 with a winnable game against Hawthorn to follow next weekend, but Longmire said finishing in the finals was still the furthest thing from his mind.

"I haven't had that on my radar just yet because we've got other things to work through and that's making sure we keep playing well, that's our main focus," Longmire said.

"Whether we're playing really well at the top of the ladder or where we've been this year, we don't really look too far ahead. It's for people outside to look at. Internally we just make sure we pick the most competitive team we can."
