Ultimate Footy preview
Sports journalist Michael Gleeson previews Ultimate Footy, a new draft style fantasy AFL game.
In Ultimate Footy, if you have Gary Ablett at your disposal, he's yours. No one else in your league can have him.
Fantasy AFL won't be the same again as we announce the launch of The Age TAC Ultimate Footy.
You won't look back as fantasy footy heads off in a brave new direction.
The season begins with the draft, where each team in your league gets their turn to pick a player. This is one of the most challenging and exciting aspects of Ultimate Footy. Make the right decisions at draft time, and it could set up your whole season.
There are various ways to run your draft, with both online and offline options available. You might choose to run a 'live' draft over a 1-2 hour period, or perhaps over a more drawn out period during the pre-season. There's also an 'auto-pick' draft where each team in each league has the option of setting pre-draft rankings. What about an off-line draft where you get together with your mates and conduct in manually, and submit the results to us. The choice is yours.
Your league can feature as few as four teams or as many as 18 outfits battling it out for fantasy bragging rights. You choose what's best for you as customising your competition is the stand-out feature of Ultimate Footy.
Throughout the season you can drop players that aren't performing, pick up free agents, or make trades with other teams in your league. Would you trade Jobe Watson and Dale Thomas for Dane Swan? You make the call.
We give you the ability to run your league the way you want it. You can customise the scoring system, the weighting of stats, players per team, lockout times, trade rules, almost everything can be customised. If you've been running a fantasy comp off a spreadsheet for years, chances are you'll be able to run it through Ultimate Footy with exactly the same rules but much less hassle.
But if you just want to play Ultimate Footy without making too many decision about specific rules, you can choose a set of default settings to run your competition. Again, the choice is yours.
Confused? We have a thorough help section that will take you step-by-step through the process. We will also have plenty of information on the draft to help you get your team just right.
You can head to the site right now and start getting your league organised, and find out why this truly is fantasy football, evolved.
Fantasy footy has indeed evolved and Ultimate Footy gives you the best experience.
