Mitch Wallis snapped his left fibula and tibia during the last quarter of the Dogs' game against St Kilda and his teammates witnessed him screaming in pain after the match.

Beveridge described the night as devastating for the club.

The coach was still emotional on Tuesday as he said Wallis and forward Jack Redpath, who injured his anterior cruciate ligament on the same night, had successfully undergone surgery.

Asked how he had helped the players recover from that evening, Beveridge said they had been focusing on their great wins and how resilient they had been this year.

But he conceded he did not know whether the difficult experience of seeing a teammate in serious pain would have an impact on their football.

"How we process it and how we move on, there are some formalities there that have taken place, but we won't know the true outcome until we play [Geelong] on Friday night," he said.

Beveridge said Wallis may not play for a year and Redpath would be out for a similar period.

"The ramifications in terms of personnel and players being available is quite clinical, it's more losing a teammate who's not going to be around for a while," he said.

"I think if Mitch wasn't there [in the rooms after the game], it wouldn't have been any less emotional once we all thought about it, but it heightened everyone's senses.

"It's such a tragic injury, for it to overshadow an ACL injury. Red's [Redpath] standing in the corner and he's going to be out for 11 or 12 months. At some point we all need to get over to him and put our arms around him as well."

Beveridge said he was an emotional person and seeing how deeply his players cared about each other had tugged at his heartstrings, but it was his duty to be strong in front of the team.

"I haven't been like this [teary] with the group, they've been quite resilient when they've been around each other and they were all in really good spirits at lunchtime today," he said.

The Bulldogs have endured a horror run of injuries this year, losing captain Bob Murphy early in the season when he ruptured the ACL in his left knee.

But there was some positive news at Whitten Oval; Beveridge said forward Luke Dahlhaus would return to the team after hurting his shoulder and young gun Jake Stringer is likely to be fit to play after a knee injury.

Beveridge had not decided whether backman Dale Morris, who has been suffering hamstring tightness, would play.

"It'll be touch and go, we'll got to the wire with him," he said.

The Bulldogs will play fellow top-eight team the Cats in Geelong on Friday night. Both sides have had 12 wins and five losses this season and are two of six teams separated only by percentage points.
