This week's most annoying things

Occasionally a woman needs to vent. Occasionally it can't be to your husband because it's him you want to vent about. Occasionally it can't be to your friends because for as much as they love you they're occasionally too distracted by the things they want to vent about to be bothered listening. So what options do you have? There should be a phone number you can all, 1800 and another thing ... up late the other night I'm thinking maybe all those hot babes and sexy singles want something else to talk about, look let's discuss the stimulus package ... no, i said stimulus.

i'm lucky, i've got a blog.

Annoying thing of week I

Can't quite believe the lesbian couple suing over the "wrongful birth" of one of their twins decided to take it any further once they lost their case back in July last year. Even more horrified that they've now won the right, on appeal, to be compensated. Which twin was the wrongful one? Yes, I'm sure they love them both dearly, but, by law now, one is wrongful. Look at your daughters and tell me which one? And then there was all the hogwash of how having the babies changed their relationship. Hello! If that's grounds for a lawsuit, where's my lawyer? Every parent in the world, gay, straight, married, single, whether one child or octuplets (and that's another thing all together too) has a completely different relationships with the opposite birth parent once the birth occurs. Sometimes it's better, sometimes it's worse, but always totally different. Take your lot ladies and be blessed that a) you even had the opportunity to have a baby and b) you were lucky enough to get two, totally healthy, beautiful daughters. Take your lawyer's number off your speed dial and spend time with your children.

Annoying thing of the week II

What's it all about, Alfie? Call me old-fashioned (and perhaps I am, but there's nothing wrong with that) but there's something particularly icky about this story. Thirteen-year-old Alfie and his older woman Chantelle, proud parents of little Maisie. Apparently now there's even allegations that Alfie was only named as the father because it meant the families would get more money from the tabloids. I think Chantelle's parents should be more concerned that their 15 year old daughter couldn't narrow down her sexual partners, who, when you think about the logistics of actually falling pregnant, had more than one in the space of about 10 days. I just hope all these people die in a plane crash and little Maisie gets raised by a rich great aunt who surrounds her with books and music and morals.

Annoying thing of the week III

The Oscars are on. I love the Oscars. Always have. Love it from the first star on the red carpet to the last acceptance speech that gets wound up before it's even half over. Love looking at the frocks, love the opening sequence (will Hugh be better than Billy Crystal), love the whole thing. Hate the idea that it's live from the AM in Sydney but not regionally - boo WIN! But will sit up late Monday night anyway. Love it but the annoying thing about the Oscars is it reminds me how sad my life has become when I realise the only nominated films I have seen are in the animated feature category - how can Kung Fu Panda not win?? Have not seen any of the five films nominated for best picture despite two attempts to see Benjamin Button. Don't cinemas realise that some people have to get dinner cooked, children into bed, husbands placated before they can leave the house to see a movie and therefore tickets should be kept behind the counter for said people who can't get into the cinema hours before the scheduled starting time? It's almost got to the point where you have to plan the day, spending the afternoon in the Dendy bar area from 3pm to get tickets to the 9pm session. (Hey, that's not a bad idea at all. Interested girls?)

I'll hang out in the bar at Dendy for six hours... just as soon as my own baby is born!! I agree with the first two of your ranting points completely. I also have a blog, but I ranted on it last week so I probably shouldn't do so again. I'll just make it known that I would have, and I would have said what you said! :) As for your third point... The Oscars as a whole annoy me. Not a fan, never have been. Sorry :)

Sitting in any bar for 6 hours sounds good but you do realise you've been able to reserve tickets at all the cinemas in Canberra for many years? At greater union and Dendy you can even select the exact seat you want in the cinema! This technological stuff is amazing!

Karen Hardy escapes her life as wife and mother by masquerading as a journalist at The Canberra Times. In the office she can go to the toilet by herself and occassionally write something that might make someone smile.
