 Stimulus money goes to foreigners

Stimulus money goes to foreigners

BARBARA TOKLEY was grateful, if a little embarrassed, to receive $1400 from the Rudd Government as part of its stimulus package to bolster the Australian economy. The trouble is, she is not an Australian citizen, she has not lived here since 1969, and she has spent every cent stimulating the New Zealand economy.

Ms Tokley, 69, a British-born resident of Auckland, is among thousands of non-Australians whose bank accounts in 21 other countries have swollen with Kevin Rudd's stimulus funds.

Have your say.

Tell us your experiences.

Two questions come to mine - Why? and How?

Senator Evans today Question Time was asked that "How does overseas pension payments help stimulate the Aust. economy? and his answer is - "it was the Govennments decisions to pay every pensioner" - and that's it! No discussion in a 'decocracy'. No wonder people are disrespecting the Govt's bad management in pushing a socialistic-equal for all.

I also received the $1400-00 while living in New Zealand. Having worked in Australia for a great number of years, I am very grateful for the money which helped me to a very large extent. Australia is benefiting through the Australian products that i buy to fill the inner man, the fuel that i buy from an Australian fuel company, and the fact that I will be spending the next week in Australia, so you see Australia is gaining from the gift. I thank Mr Rudd and his team. I am sure that everyone who had the extra money sent to them in other countries, in some way, helped and will continue to help the Australian economy, and I for one will continue to do so That will at least keep someone employed in Australia which I love. Thank you.

Kevin are you going to explain to us how something like this can happen and how much it has cost the Australian Government (taxpayers of OZ) or are you just going to choose to ignore the truth and facts and just shrug it off in the nonchalant way you answer most things since you and your party took over the government role. Frankly there are numerous Australians who now want answers from you, not handouts that end up in the hands of residents in other countries.

You elect a government that couldn't run a chook raffle, what do you expect to happen when they get their hands on the tens of billions of dollars saved by the previous government?

So what? They keep telling us it's a global economy, we're all connected, and protectionism is out. Therefore consumers spending money anywhere has got to be a good thing, one presumes. Don't we own NZ anyway, or at least heaps of Aussie companies have branches over there. We are all importing stuff from China, which means the Chinese need to import our stuff which they then use to build more factories to churn out more stuff for us rich countries to keep buying. So whether this lady lives in Oz, NZ or Timbuctu, who cares?

Thanks Kev, not a cent for me but giving my cash to people in other countries. Shame, shame, shame.

first of all to CLARE,you do not state where you live but if it is australia you should be deported to nz, here is a government that used tv (non)personalities a ageing rock person and a prime minister whose biggest thing he has done is being an idiot on you tube what else can you expect and remember to ask yourselves (everyone who voted for them) why was i an idiot to, just remember all in the next election in 2010. and ask yourself "am i going to be an idiot again?"
