Defence investigates Anzac Day misconduct
An alcohol-affected Australian Defence Force (ADF) member made inappropriate approaches to local women while participating in a defence exercise in Malaysia, Defence says.
A newly released Defence "hot issues brief", it said the incident occurred on the afternoon of Anzac Day at the Penang Ferry Terminal.
Defence didn't identify the member, saying only the person had been deployed to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base at Butterworth as part of an exercise.
Defence said the member allegedly made "inappropriate approaches to local females in a public place" after consuming alcohol.
"Two other members of the contingent attempted to remove the member to RMAF Butterworth but were unsuccessful in stopping the incident," it said.
No complaints had been received so far.
Defence said it had been recommended the ADF Investigative Service conduct an investigation.
In the meantime, the member remains restricted to the base.
