Rockhampton residents are being told to prepare their homes for a major flood this weekend.
Deputy Mayor Tony Williams says the Fitzroy River is expected to peak at about 8.5 metres on Saturday night.
He said that at that level it would not be as severe as the flooding the city saw in 2011, but not as severe as 2011.
But flooding was still expected.
"We're asking people that were previously affected in 2011 to take precautions now, and start to prepare their properties for a similar event," he told ABC radio.
He said flood maps were being put up at local shopping centres to advise residents which areas were at highest risk.
