One of Australia's top young basketballers has been arrested in the US.
Mangok Mathiang, a Melbourne-raised 208cm centre, was arrested in Louisville as the city celebrated the Kentucky Derby horse race weekend.
Mathiang, 21, plays for US college basketball powerhouse the University of Louisville.
According to local media reports, he was arrested on Friday night for failure to disperse and public drinking.
A Louisville police spokesman told the Courier-Journal newspaper Mathiang continued to follow police after they arrested his friend and asked him to stand back. He was allegedly carrying a can of beer.
Mathiang was arrested a short walk from Churchill Downs racecourse, site of the Kentucky Derby.
Mathiang was born in Sudan, but when he was a child moved with his family to Australia and settled in Melbourne.
It was Australian rules that Mathiang loved, but at the age of 16 he was 198cm tall and set his sights on basketball.
