Trade deficit narrows

Australia’s trade deficit narrowed in September, official figures show.

The balance on goods and services was a deficit of $1.456 billion in September seasonally adjusted, compared with a revised deficit of $1.876 billion in August, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said on Monday.

Economists’ forecasts had centred on a deficit of $1.5 billion in September.

During September, exports were down 1.0 per cent, while imports were down 2.0 per cent, the ABS said.
