Her words, which may be construed as an attempt to light a fire to divert questions away from criticism of the way she and her proxies are managing One Nation, ignore the work that has been done over many decades to create an inclusive school environment in which teaching models are tailored to students' needs, not the other way around.

The saddest thing is her outburst detracts from the biggest education story of the year, the news Gonski 2.0 is finally on the cusp of being passed.

This is despite the latest reform package having been turned into a political football thanks to the obstructionist stance of the ALP and the inability of The Greens to reach agreement amongst themselves on about pretty much anything.

Few would be blind to the irony of the fact Ms Hanson, one of the key players in getting Gonski 2.0 across the line, followed up this apparently far sighted action by immediately demonstrating she knows very little about the nuances of running an education system and apparently cares even less.

It is likely One Nation's newly found commitment to Gonski is all about the deal and has little to do with what is in the national interest.

Despite the criticism they have received from sectional and factional interests, most notably the Catholic education lobby and the teachers unions, the reforms expected to pass Parliament before the weekend are amongst the most significant in our recent history.

They will overturn decades of ad hoc, one-off, funding deals that created a system of channelling resources to schools so complex as to be beyond human understanding.

While not quite a clean slate, Gonski 2.0 will make Catholic education executives accountable for the way in which Federal funds are shared out amongst individual schools and see a major reduction in funding for 24 elite private schools.

The cross bench senators are to be commended for their success in forcing the Government to commit to reaching the targeted funding levels over six years, not the original 10.

While this will an add an extra $4.9 billion to the original $18.6 billion commitment it does mean schools will be able to get cracking on fixing problems much sooner.

With David Gonski reportedly saying, according to Nick Xenophon, it would be a disaster if the package did not pass, the plan also appears to have the ultimate in education celebrity endorsements.

Now Mr Turnbull has moved this issue into his out tray it would be good to think we might see a similar result on Finkel some time soon.
