The upside of Hazelwood's closure

If ever there was an electricity generator ready for the knacker's yard, it was the Hazelwood coal-fired power station. Old, unprofitable, and highly polluting, its retirement had been expected for years. Thursday's announcement by French majority owner Engie that Hazelwood would close on March 31 next year still made major headlines around the country, however.
