Change ignores past

Former public sector employees in receipt of defined benefits superannuation payments had their part age pensions cut or terminated from January 1 this year. A spokeswoman for Social Services Minister Christian Porter says the changes were made "to inject greater fairness" and "to ensure that people receiving incomes from defined benefits schemes did not enjoy an advantage over people receiving incomes from other sources such as superannuation" ("Shorten's glimmer of hope for pensioners", May 27, p1).
