Feeling a slow burn

The joke of Telstra service to rural areas was perfectly highlighted by the story suggesting speeds of 12 Mbps ("Surge in traffic puts brakes on 4G mobile data speeds", March 20, p6). I live at Sutton, NSW, less than 25 kilometres from the centre of Canberra (Civic) and my download speeds, using a Telstra-supplied broadband modem, run from a low of 0.5 Mbps to a high of 3.3 Mbps, an average of less than 1.7 Mbps and with regular drop-outs.
