Finally, an immigration cut, but it is still not enough

It is a bit belated, but nevertheless gratifying, that the Prime Minister has recognised that there is a cost to immigration (it's called infrastructure) and has suggested cutting the intake by 30,000. That sounds a lot, but when you consider that net overseas migration in the year ending 31 March 2018 was 236,800, we would still have over 200,000 net migration. More needs to come off both the permanent and temporary programs, though not the humanitarian component which is only about five per cent of the total anyway. It's not just infrastructure, of course.
