Not many people quote George Bernard Shaw these days and if it weren't for pub quizzes that ask for the name of someone other than Bob Dylan who won a Nobel Prize and an Oscar, most people would never have heard of him. So I am pleased to quote him here on the subject of money and its effect on the good life. "A sufficient income," he wrote, "is indispensable to the practice of virtue."
