Smacking children as punishment asks for a certain brutality

Pope Francis recently lauded a father who smacked his kids, saying that this was 'beautiful' (or 'great', depending on the translation). The man struck his children's bottoms, never their faces. "He had a sense of dignity," said the leader of the Catholic Church. "He should punish, do the right thing, and then move on."
