The captain's picks who've become political casualties

There are many casualties of war in politics, and they are not always from among the political leaders. Recent years have seen a number of examples of individuals brought down by the crossfire between the major political parties. They weren't at all innocent victims and they contributed to their own demise by mistakes, misdemeanours and misjudgments but they were also in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their demise became important in the bigger picture of party warfare.
