The Saudi-Iran Rupture: an unsettling but not insurmountable development

The Saudi-Iranian row over Riyadh's recent execution of a prominent Shia cleric is unlikely to lead to a military confrontation between the two regional rivals. However, it carries the potential to undermine a resolution of the ongoing regional conflicts, from Syria and Iraq to Yemen, and the continuation of the mess that is the Middle East.
