Whatever grandma can do, I can do better.

Prince Harry has tried to outdo his grandmother's selfie on an unsuspecting trio of New Zealand Commonwealth Games officials in Glasgow.

Last week the Queen inadvertently photobombed a picture of Australian Hockeyroos players Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris, but Prince Harry made it his mission to up the ante while checking out the women's 800m swimming event.

The Prince gave a sneaky thumbs up behind New Zealand rugby sevens coach Sir Gordon Tietjens, Sport Manawatu chief executive Trevor Shailer and Massey University Professor Emeritus Gary Hermansson.

Shailer uploaded the photo as his Facebook profile picture with the caption: "Photo of the day...A Royal photo bomb by Prince Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were also in attendance with Harry at the Tollcross Swimming Centre for day five of competition.

Hours earlier, Taylor and Peris asked Prince Harry for another selfie similar to the one snapped with his 88-year-old grandmother, but he told the pair he didn't like selfies and would prefer to take a regular photo together.

Although England were beaten by Australia 3-0 in the hockey, Prince Harry was in a jovial mood and happy to pose for photographs with the Hockeyroos after their victory.
