Emma Watson ... used to lure in unsuspecting victims online.

Emma Watson is the favorite celebrity bait for cyber criminals trying to lure internet users.

Security software company McAfee said that the Harry Potter star is the "most dangerous" celebrity to search for online. That's because many sites use Watson to trick users into downloading malicious software or to steal personal information.

When searching for the 22-year-old Watson, there's a one-in-eight chance of landing on a malicious site.

This is the sixth time the Intel-owned security company has conducted the study, which was last year topped by Heidi Klum. Female celebrities are far more likely to be utilised by cyber criminals: late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was the only male in the top 20.

Others among the riskiest celebrities to search online are Jessica Biel, Eva Mendes, Selena Gomez and Halle Berry.

  • Sadly the real threat on the internet, hackers are being over shadowed by trolls...

It is a wonderful world we live in where hurting someone's feelings is worse than stealing information, interfering with private systems and DOS attacks...

Although the idea of Emma Watson as some sort of cyber criminal was enough to get me to read this article... Like Sandra Bullock in that awful film about being a computer hack... whatever.

    • Spot on mate. Hackers don't affect the media. TWITTER steals the storey before the story even happens. All of a sudden everyone's on twitter finding out the news and not paying for Herald Sun digital pass!

  • Is that really Emma Watson? Wouldn't have recognised her under all those layers of paint and everything. Very far removed from that attractive, gamine young girl we saw in Harry Potter...
