STM's new Trust bag.

STM's new Trust bag.

The only real test of a cargo carrier is to stuff it full of gadgets and see how it goes. That is what I did with STM's new Trust bag, which is rocking military cool with its commando canvas styling in olive, charcoal or red.

Part of the new Annex range from Australian brand Trust, it comes in a small size to accommodate most 13-inch screens and in a medium to handle 15-inch screens, with compartments lined with soft nylex and foam so your gear can take a bit of a beating.

The look is very fashion forward - what you would expect from a company founded in Bondi Beach: urban, casual, retro, without screaming ''I work in IT''.

The brushed aluminum buckles are a clever touch, as are the multiple zipper pockets for smaller items such as smartphones, watches, wallets and keys.

And what did I manage to fit into the Trust? In the padded back section I packed a MacBook 13 laptop in its cover. Into the middle sleeve slipped the Kindle e-reader, iPad mini and portable phone charger, with a paper notebook and diary in the pocket alongside it. The front section is a great slot for pens, purse (wallet) and food snacks (with the mesh zipper reserved for earphones, tissue or medication), and the front pouch is perfect for a phone, which can be easily reached with a quick flick of the zipper.

Documents went in the external A4-size back sleeve, with its stylish webbing trim.

Even after loading up all that, there is room to spare. I reckon I could have squeezed in the DSLR, a magazine, or another tablet.

Maybe there is a wormhole in there somewhere, because the STM Trust is the laptop bag that keeps on giving.

Available in April for $149.95.
