Samsung Galaxy S7 to be revealed on February 22 at Mobile World Congress

Show comments

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge on February 21 (February 22 Australia time).

The  company has sent out media invitations for its Unpacked Event, which will take place at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

Samsung has not confirmed the announcement but the invitations paired with the fact that its Galaxy S6 devices were launched at last year's MWC provide a good hint.

Serial leaker Evan Blass has sent out a series of tweets with purported images of the new devices, showing the front and back of both phones.

Apart from an a slightly rounder shape, the devices are aesthetically very similar to past phones in the line.

No details have been confirmed but the phones have been rumoured to feature:

- 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch display versions
- 4GB of inbuilt RAM
- 32GB/64GB of storage
- 12MP camera (down from 16MP)
- the return of the microSD card slot
- a possible virtual reality feature (VR features in the promo)
- a pressure-sensitive display (similar to the iPhone's 3D touch)
- a new high-speed charging port
- the return of waterproofing

The company is expected to keep closely in line with previous designs after the S6 and S6 Edge received positive reviews.

Samsung will be hoping the S7 and S7 Edge will help the company's profits after its net profit slumped 40 per cent during the last three months of 2015.
