Barbara Streisand nominated for a surprise Razzie award as Twilight scoops more nominations than there are categories.

There is something great about the Golden Raspberry or Razzie awards. Mostly it's the timing.

The now serious, but still wonderfully mean awards, celebrating the worst of film from the past calendar year are carefully timed to steal the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences thunder, with their nominees announced on Wednesday, a day before the Oscar nominees and the awards presented the night before the Academy Awards.

The holy Oscar / Razzie double ... Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in a scene from The Guilt Trip.

In a week where we have experienced an onslaught of Awards season build-up with the Australian Academy announcing their host, the British Academy their nominees, the American Directors Guild following suit along with the Cinematographers and Sound awards, all in the lead up to Friday's Oscar nominees and Monday's Golden Globe Awards, there is something wonderful about an organisation that actively tries to burst that balloon, to let all that hot air escape.

This year, the Razzie foundation have blown a massive raspberry towards The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, rewarding the final instalment and its litany of bizarre filmmaking decisions with the most nominations for the 2013 Golden Raspberry Awards.

Impressively, the Twilight finale managed more nominations than there are awards, with a nod in every one of the 10 categories, and two nominations in the worst screen couple category, once for Bella and Edward, once for Jacob and Renesmee, the infant he is imprinted on for the entirety of the film.

If that wasn't enough, Kristen Stewart, who shot to fame in the drawn-out saga, has been handed two individual nominations in the worst actress category, for her role as Bella as well as her turn in Snow White and the Huntsman.

Other two-film nominees were Jessica Biel, Brooklyn Decker and Tyler Perry who was nominated as worst director for two films, and worst actor for two films, though not the same two films. He also received a nomination for worst actress.

Razzie regular Adam Sandler saw his film That's My Boy placed as the next most nominated film with nine nods, including an impressive four-way spread for the worst screen couple award. While Peter Berg's Battleship was an unsurprising recipient of seven nominations.

More shocking was a nod for Oscar winner Barbara Streisand for her performance in Guilt Trip, a nomination that bodes poorly for audiences anticipating that film's release in Australia later this month.

The Golden Raspberry Awards will be handed out on February 23, the day before the Oscars.
