Lead actor and executive producer of the Netflix series, Kevin Spacey told Bloomberg’s Charlie Rose this week that Clinton, like the rest of the first world, 'binge watched' the show, which is set in and around the White House.

“I love that show. It’s so good. We watched it over three days it was so good,” Clinton reportedly told Spacey, who plays House Majority Whip Francis Underwood.

“It’s very interesting how people in real politics are responding. Privately they’re saying it’s closer than anyone has ever filmed before. Publicly, they’re probably not saying that,” he added.

“What I think people might enjoy about Francis as a character is that he has no allegiances. He has no allegiance to party, it’s not about Democrats or Republicans or ideology or passion, it’s about opportunity to move forward.”

Spacey said Republican John McCain is the only US senator who has shown any real life House of Cards type traits, due to his “extraordinary ability to be a sane and reasonable voice.”

Following its resounding critical and commercial success, House of Cards is now in the running to take home nine Emmy awards.

It is the first “streaming” series which has ever been nominated for a major industry award.

“By putting out the entire season at once, we’re showing that we’ve learned the lessons that the music industry didn’t learn.

“Give people what they want, when they want it, in the form they want it in, at a reasonable price and they’ll buy it and they won’t necessarily steal it. I think you can take a bite out of piracy.

“Why is Game of Thrones the most pirated show in the history of television? Because people can’t get it fast enough,” Spacey said.

Season two of House of Cards is expected to be launched in early 2014.
