Shakespeare's sonnets, like his life, are shrouded in mystery. Who is Mr W.H. to whom the sonnets are dedicated? Publisher, patron or lover perhaps? Or the young man who seems to be the focus of his attention throughout the earlier sonnets? A homosexual lover? And what of the mysterious, black-haired, dark-eyed Dark Lady of the Sonnets who invades the last of the sonnets?
