Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais is biting back at critics who called his Caitlyn Jenner joke transphobic.

During his monologue he made a crack about the Olympian-turned-transgender trailblazer. However, the dig had more to do with Jenner's involvement in a fatal car crash in February 2015:

"I'm going to be nice tonight. I've changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously ... now Caitlyn Jenner. What a year she's had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes. She didn't do a lot for women drivers, but you can't have everything, can you?"

On Tuesday, he took to Twitter to defend his point of view, noting that merely bringing up Jenner in a joke does not automatically make one transphobic no more than telling a Bill Cosby joke makes one racist:

And he's nowhere near done offending the internet.

And he issued a warning: "Hosting The Globes has made me want to do a new stand up show next year. Now THAT'S when you're allowed to be offended."
