THE Vikings Group has remained committed to the promotion and development of sport in the Tuggeranong Valley and the ACT region during its 33 year history.
Due to this commitment in the past year alone, the group's 53 affiliated sporting clubs had more than 4000 junior athletes and 3500 senior athletes compete in local competitions.
In addition to this, through other major sporting grants to amateur sport, another 1500 athletes were also supported.
One example of this support is the Vikings Sports Scholarship Scheme, open to students of local high schools and affiliated sporting clubs.
These scholarships are intended to assist their top-level sports men and women with the costs involved in competing in their chosen sport, while continuing their college or tertiary studies.
During the past 27 years, the Vikings Group has provided more than $770,000 of financial assistance to more than 500 young Tuggeranong Valley athletes.
Since 1979, Vikings has provided more than $40 million to the community.
Vikings' commitment to promoting and supporting sport is not only in a financial capacity, a spokesperson for the group said. Vikings provides quality sporting venues for its members and the community.
The Vikings Group won the ClubsACT Promotion of Sport Award.
